An Interview with Matt Encinas, Senior Director of Operations

Powering Procraft highlights the individuals who bring our work to life—skilled, creative professionals whose ideas and integrity fuel everything we build. Through candid conversations about their paths, perspectives, and the culture that connects us, we celebrate what makes Procraft a team unlike any other.

What types of projects have you worked on in the past that you’re most proud of?

Matt: At a previous company, Oblong Industries Inc., we worked with some very fun technology. One custom install in New York with IBM, we implemented a flagship sales floor with Unified Communication mixed in. It was large-scale, with lots of client eyes over our shoulders. I bring this up because we solicited Procraft's help. So I was able to work with Procraft before working for Procraft.

What inspired you to pursue a career in AV/tech integration? What drew you to Procraft Media?

Matt: I've always been the guy who has to know how something works and then figure out how to make it work better. That hands-on, technical curiosity is just how I'm wired. AV integration hits the sweet spot; it's technical, it's physical, and at the end of the day, you've built something people actually use. What drew me to ProCraft was the mindset and the people. We don't just pull cable and walk away, we solve the problem and take care of the client, and most importantly, we take pride in our work.

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Matt: I love outdoor activities. My family boats, waterskis, wakeboards, wake surf, etc. I love to tinker with my 3D printer alongside my son, and let our creativity out of the box.

If you could have any superpower on a job site, what would it be?

Matt: X-ray vision for sure. If I could see every cable run, stud, and obstruction behind the walls and above the ceiling, I definitely would have saved myself a lot of heartache and errors over the years.

What’s your go-to snack or drink when you’re on the road or in the field?

Matt: Celsius, Hot’n Spicy Pork rinds, and Funyuns.

What's your favorite band or type of music to work to?

Matt: My favorite band of all time is The Gaslight Anthem; their music marked a lot of nights I don’t remember with friends that I will never forget. Also, shout out to Something Corporate, I hear they are alright as well.

What’s your definition of a job well done?

Matt: Client's happy, it's done right the first time, the documentation's clean, and nobody's getting a callback. Done right beats done fast. The cherry on top is becoming the source of truth or the client’s confidant during the project.

How do you approach troubleshooting when things go wrong on-site?

Matt: Slow down, step away, or eat if necessary. With fresh eyes, isolate the root cause rather than chase symptoms. Verify against the spec and scope, fix it, then document what happened so it doesn't bite us twice.

What do you think makes a great team?

Matt: Attitude. Doesn’t matter how smart you are; you need to be a team player. We are stronger as a team than as individuals. After that, clear ownership, people who do what they say they'll do, and enough trust that the field, PM, and office are all pulling in the same direction

What does doing it “The Procraft Way” mean to you?

Matt: Procraft specifically is “Powered by People”. Do the work right, hold the standard, and treat clients, subs, and each other like people. It's caring about the craft and the relationship at the same time.

What tools or gear do you never leave home without?

Matt: What is left of my brain, my phone, and my “go” toolkit, which can get me through 90% of any install.
